Test Provider's Blog

This chapter is designed to support people who select tests and who perform testing services relevant to PrEP implementation, including testing for the presence of HIV-1/2, creatinine, hepatitis B virus (HBV), pregnancy, syphilis, and gonorrhea. In accordance with existing WHO guidance, all testing services should be provided in a quality assured manner in all community and facility settings, including laboratory settings and testing at the point of care.  The chapter provides considerations for how such testing services should be implemented as part of PrEP initiation and management, including what assays are critical for PrEP users and how frequently PrEP users need different types of testing services. There is also a discussion of testing strategies and testing algorithms, and how to use testing results to inform clinical decisions about PrEP initiation and management.
